Receiving the Frequency: It was night time in Oregun, Lagos and my friends and I had just returned from an event. It had been a long night but we were still buzzing from having a fun time so we still a lot of energy.
We happened to be in the studio where I’ve been making my album Herbal Music so we thought to ourselves “what better way to expend the energy than make some music?”
Jay Blakez, my talented producer, got on the keyboard, started playing an amazing chord progression and sang...
"i got the feeling, feeling got me breathing"
One thing I love about creative spaces is that there are hardly any bad ideas and usually when someone comes up with a nice “cruise” (as I like to call it) you are encouraged to follow it with something you feel could work. And at the moment Jay played the progression and sang those lines, I felt like I was really in tune with the direction he was headed so I let him know by singing...

Get it? This is how we continued, riffing off each other and keeping what we liked with extra input from Halima and Jamal Swiss (who are also wonderful musicians) till my latest single titled “Feeling” was complete.
This isn’t how the music creation process usually goes for me as I typically come to the studio with my songs in ready in mind but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed creating with friends. It also helped drive home a lesson I have recently been learning in the course of my career.
As an Independent Musician, it was easy to fall into the trap of thinking I could do it all by myself and sometimes, it really seemed like I didn’t have a choice so I tried to be my own songwriter, producer, manager, PR person, etc. Sounds tiring, doesn’t it?
I’ve come to discover that it is okay to ask for help and when I tried it out, I realized that people are willing and even delighted to help. Among other positive results, the song has amassed up to 10,000+ streams in less than a month of its release – better than any of my previous releases and I am filled with gratitude.

Feeling is a song about intimate connections, made with 100% organic musical elements and is designed to give people a taste of my forthcoming album Herbal Music and so far I believe it has done an exceptional job.
