In 2018 we had a ton of amazing game releases, some games worthy of being game of the generation , from new IPs, sequels and reboots and new IPs, on all platforms from PS4, PC, XBOX One and Nintendo Switch. I compiled some of the best games I had played and the best rated games on all platforms that all fellow gamers should try and catch up on.

10. No Man's Sky Next ( PS4, XBOX 1, PC)
No Man's Sky in 2015 was a bit of a disappointment , the game, in 2018 no man's sky next is the game no man sky was meant to be, beautiful and full of freedom and options to play. Tons of beautiful planets to explore with unique fauna and flora to collect to survive as well good combat and trading. It's a great action adventure survival game that is worth your time and money.

9. Shadow of the Colossus ( PS4 )
A remake of a beloved PS2 game. Shadow of the Colossus is a beautiful action adventure game with good platform puzzler elements with tight controls, beautiful character design and some of the best music you will find in gaming. It's a very complete experience, telling a strong narrative of a young boy defeating the collossi, giant greek creatures of incredible might. However, being a remake of an already amazing game held it back from being higher up my list.

8. Dragonball Fighter Z ( PS4/PC/XBOX 1/Nintendo Switch)
The biggest anime in the world got arguably the best fighting game of the year in Dragonball Fighter Z. Simple but deep with beautiful 2D cell shaded graphics. Fighter Z has a refined roster of all the fan favourites from Goku, Piccolo, The Androids , Teen Gohan and Future Trunks with a total of 21 ( plus 3 dlc characters) to choose from. It's not just a game for fans of Dragonball, but for fighting game fans and gamers in general, with great mechanics and flashy graphics to go with it.

7. Monster Hunter World ( PS4/PC and XBOX 1 2019 release)
Monster Hunter is a simple game, you hunt monsters. Simple it is, boring it ain't. It's an open world JRPG action game set on an island where you hunt different monsters for their unique properties to survive, gaining experience and tools to make your character stronger and access to unique weaponry depending on the scenario and what you have gained. With single player or multiplayer options, you can go hunting however you choose, with a solid story mode campaign to boot. MH World is a JRPG gamer's delight.

6. Assassin's Creed Odyssey ( PS4/PC/Nintendo Switch)
The long running and storied franchise has a new location ancient Greek, well new time period, and follows dual protagonists of a sibling pair Kassandra and Alexios. It's a fun game with great naval exploration elements where you get to assassinate templars and do cool stuff. It however is plagued with micro transaction and grinding that dampens the experience a bit. Nevertheless it's a great game that is a good time.

5. Spider-Man (PS4):
Spider-Man the Playstation 4 exclusive, is simply a fun game. It captures the wonder and feel of being the world's most popular hero , Spider-Man. with great swinging controls and combat. A great story with fun DLC being released monthly to keep fans satisfied, although some missions do get dull and repetitive at points, the game's highs however are more than enough to compensate for this. It is filled with all your favourite incarnations of Spider-Man's costumes that you can try and enjoy. A strong contender for best superhero game ever with the Batman Arkham games. Spider-Man is a joy to play and behold that is a clear labour of love from the Insomniac studios with clear love for the titular hero.

4. Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Nintendo Switch)
The biggest fighting series in the world is back and is chock full of amazing well crafted fan service. By far the biggest and well developed fighting roster in the series (over 70 playable characters) , with beautiful graphics and fun gameplay to boot. Just go play it , fun multiplayer game to play with family and friends and online that you can play for hours without getting bored of.

3. Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4/XBOX 1)
Hop in losers we are going bounty hunting. The most ambitious title of the year should easily go to Red Dead Redemption 2, with hundreds of millions spent to make this title, the end product is well worth the development cost. It is simply the deepest , most complex open world game ever made , with graphics that shine on any console you choose from( from PS4 and it's Pro and Xbox to it's more powerful Xbox ONE X ). It tells the tales of outlaws dealing with the changing wild wild west and has deep and amazing choices, great characters and solid gameplay. However, the game is held back slightly from pure perfection with some of its mission design and structure as they feel a bit dated and at times clunky controls. Nevertheless, the overall package is outstanding and is meaty game worthy of being sunk the long hour it requires.

2. Astro Bot ( PS VR )
I felt bad having to go with either this game or Tetris Effect, because they are both amazing and must have games for the PS VR. They encapsulate what gaming is supposed to be at its core, FUN. Astro Bot is a fun virtual reality platformer for the PS VR that you can sink hours into without noticing , gorgeous graphics with fun and intuitive gameplay, my gamers, you have to play and experience this game, a great experience
Honorable Mentions: All amazing games that should be on this list( and honestly could be if you ask me in the coming months depending on my mood): Tetris Effect ( PS4 & PS VR ), Valkryia Chronicles 4 ( PS4, PC AND Nintendo Switch ) ,Return of Obra Dinn ( PC ) , Far Cry 5 ( PS4/PC/XBOX)

1. God of War (PS4)
Are you surprised boy ? My favourite game of the last 5 years tops the list. God of War is what games are meant to be in this day and age, deep fun and engaging graphics telling a great story in a beautiful world guided by endearing and compelling characters. It follows the hero ( I use this term loosely ) of the old God of War games, Kratos who tackles his biggest challenge yet - fatherhood, trying to guide his slightly estranged son Atreus on a journey to fulfil his dead mother's wish. But all is not what it seems and they come into conflict with the powerful gods of the Norse pantheon on the journey becoming an epic tale of self-discovery , fatherhood and responsibility with lots and lots of hacking and slashing.

It's a non stop great ride from beginning to end and easily the best game of the year in a year of incredible games.
Bonus list : 2019 games I am excited for : Jump Force , DMC 5 , Death Stranding, Kingdom Hearts 3 , Sekiro , Doom Eternal , Anthem and Rage 2.
