amped in october - best songs in october
amped in october - Matt Healy of the 1975, Teni, Odunsi (The Engine), Gus Dapperton & Wizkid

There has been a legitimate concern over the oversaturation of music recently, people simply can't keep up with new music. But we've got your back by listening to as many songs as possible and picking out the best songs in October for you. Our amped contributors reviewed some of their favourites.

Able God - Chinko Ekun (feat. Lil Kesh & Zlatan)

This is simply the hottest songs on the streets of Lagos. It’s basically a prayer on a street type beat, imagining praying and dancing and the same time, who won’t love that? - Uzo

Case - Teni

They are few people doing this music thing at a level as high as Teni the entertainer and this song is another example of that. Teni let’s her prospective lover know that there’s nothing she won’t do for him, she’s even willing to fight agberos (street thugs) and I can’t lie I respect it. - Uzo

Forgiveness - Mcevoy

I think it’s safe to say that the Canadian music scene is blessed with gems of upcoming artists. Mcevoy certainly belongs with the pool, with 2 singles released so far in 2018, both great songs. Forgiveness, his latest offering is groovy pop on an excellent beat. - Iyin

dance floor - Odunsi (The Engine)

Odunsi's album rare., really hit me on dance floor because it explained Odunsi's artistry clearly. To be able to successfully present songs like dance floor and wanted you; songs that would have fit right in the 80s while bearing in mind how alike most nigerian songs are nowadays, is an exhibition of how special he is. - Iyin

It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You) - The 1975

The 1975’s upcoming album is looking great with the singles released thus far. Featuring a variety of different sounds and even sounding close to a Chance the rapper and Donnie Trumpet album cut on Sincerity is scary. It’s not living (if it’s not with you), is the ultimate the 1975 song on the album for now. It sounds like a fan favorite and an ever present song on the tour set list. - Iyin

Balanciego - Flash

Flash and Sars are proving to be an elite musical combination, The production of the song is flawless and the brilliance of Flash’s vocals cannot be doubted. This song is bound to be a major hit! - Uzo

Bugle - Olamide

When was the last time you heard Olamide rap? Well sorry for the long wait, Bugle brings back what made Olamide blow in the first place. The great Dagrin flow, the beat, the punchlines, switching between yoruba, pidgin and english (applause) Dagrin won’t be tossing and turning in his grave. - Amechi

Damiloun - Show Dem Camp (feat. Boj & Ajebutter 22)

Palmwine Music 2 has dropped and of course Ajebutter 22 & BOJ have to be on it, but this feels like cheating because these 2 are like Amala & Ewedu, they can never go wrong. At some point I forgot this was an SDC song but Damiloun didn’t disappoint as I find myself humming to it endlessly. - Amechi

Always Wonder - Lil Silva & Cautious Clay

2 of my favourite guys in music team up on a track, combining vocally and in production, not surprised the result is a minimalistic soulful anthem. Lil Silva starts the song off with "Killing them with my kindness" (goals) and Cautious Clay blends in perfectly as he reflects on a past relationship. - Iyin

Checklist - Normani, Calvin Harris (feat. Wizkid)

A pleasant surprise. I didn’t know what to expect from a Normani, Calvin Harris and Wizkid song, turns out they created a great song. Wizkid has been on a tear as of late and he completely finished work on this song. It checks all the boxes of what an international collaboration should be. - Uzo

Double Homicide - LADIPOE (feat. Ghost)

Two of the best rappers in Nigeria just going at it bar for bar on a super hard beat, it’s every Nigerian rap head’s dream. Safe to say they killed it. - Uzo
