Kratos is back , and in God of War (2018) he has a son and is living in peace........................ after wrecking the Greek pantheon and world, he's moved to Midgard to tango with Norse gods and world. In preparation I started playing God of War 3 and played the new God of War on and off . It started off as to refresh myself on the series , but it it has turned my review on it's head. It's still going to review the game mostly , but what I really loved about and gravitated too is how the game and kratos "grew up". Now let me get this out of the way , I love the original God of war series , and God of War 3 is a beautiful game with impressive setpieces, but has it aged poorly in some ways. The violence is gratuitous and the narrative is a little....... basic , there's promising aspects but it always devolves into juvenile immaturity, there's a bit of an identity crisis and last minute attempts in trying to humanize kratos, and it's a shame.

The New God of war is different , it's not perfect but it shows so much growth, and for that it's near damn perfect. ust from the new voice actor, there's measured and controlled presence Kratos now has, you can still see the former proud and wild warrior but one who has been tempered by time , regret and family. The stories start out with loss , but instead of over top blame , kratos is on a journey with his son to honour his wives wishes.
The game is still violent as the old ones , but not as gratuitous and less over the top. The female characters while still not perfect are way way better than the old series , they feel more fully realized and like people ( especially the witch in the forest ) and not just eye candy and juvenile sex mini-games. I really enjoyed this aspect , it feels like the series , last main entry God of War 3 , which released in 2010 when I was 15 , and now as I am approaching 23 in 2018 has grown with me , endearing me even to the game even more.
There's so many great things that I could go on about this game, but in summary :
1.Combat : 9/10. The combat itself, is weighted and satisfying , a special set of weapons make an appearance it becomes even better ( grind in other side missions and upgrade kratos and atreus movesets and abilities, especially atreus, it is super useful )
2.Story : 9.5/10. Kratos' and atreus' journey is touching and engaging , with great payoff, good voice acting , and one of the stronger narratives we have seen woven in a video game. It's very good and sets up alot of great things for future games , yet concluding in a very satisfying way.
3.Graphics: 15/10 , yes 15 , the game is beautiful , gorgeous. The world's are beautiful , art direction is superb and everything looks amazing, the presentation and graphics are arguably the best on the ps4.
4:Puzzles and side missions: I hate puzzles usually , optional mostly and good if you want more content , I give them an 8/10
5.Overall score : I give it a 1...................11/10, individually the game becomes more than the sum of it's parts , into a delightful and memorable package. This is probably my Game of the Year, heck game of the generation.
Summary : The New God of War is an exhilarating ride that offers amazing combat, other worldy grapgics
note: Peak enjoyment would be on 4k tv with a ps4 pro , it looks outstanding, and after the game is done return to the house
