
Nollywood has been on the organic rise from the days of home videos, to showing on the big screens of various movie festivals around the world. This is due to the presence of our distinctive & talented actors that we have, in their dedication to their craft and showmanship as well as been disciplined enough to work diligently with movie Producers & Directors.
The movie industry is now one to be regarded as a viable market that is pivotal to contribute to the overall wellbeing of our developing economy. Thanks to the output of the major stakeholders in the movie business. We give a brief overview of the current movers & shakers of our beloved Nollywood that give a sense of purpose for our entertainment pleasure on our tv screens.
1. Akah Nnani – The young & vibrant actor made a name for himself through his Instagram skits and has suddenly given other actors a run for their money as to how he delivers in the roles best suited to him. You can catch him on your tv screens as he plays the role of Anechonu on the Africa Magic Drama ‘Ajoche’
2. Efa Iwara – Made the excellent transition from been a rapper, into a professional actor and has since gone on to star in various tv commercials, web series where he received great remarks most recently, with his performance as ‘Femi’ in the Ndani tv produced ‘rumor has it’. Catch a glimpse of this embodiment of talent on your tv screens starring side by side Akah Nnani in “Ajoche”.
3. Odunlade Adekola – One word to describe this fan favorite of the Yoruba movie industry in Nollywood, is that he is simply everyone’s “favorite” neighborhood Actor who never goes wrong with the roles he plays in his movies. He is easily a legend in the making for years to come.
4. Baaj Adebule – Baaj is simply a charmer amongst the ladies where he puts in the work and kills his lover boy roles and is not afraid to get overly passionate with how he caters to the movie roles. Get to know him better as he stars on the critically acclaimed tv show ‘Battleground’.
5. Jimmy Odukoya – with a surname that rings a bell, as the direct offspring of the late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya, PJ as he is popularly called is one for the future, who carries his female audience along with his form in acting as well as how articulate he is while delivering his lines and not afraid to ridicule himself while trying to connect more with his role. Get familiar with him, in his recurring role in ‘Ajoche’ and as a regular every Sunday in the Legal tv Drama ‘E.v.E’.
6. Bolanle Ninalowo – The original bad boy in both Yoruba & English films, there is no nay saying that Bolanle fits into the description as been naturally connected to whatever role, that he is assigned to play and does justice to every film he has starred in. A Talented Professional in every right.
7. Ayoola Ayolola – coming off with winning the 2012 edition of Mtn project fame, Ayoola went on to star in critical tv soap operas and movies and has become a force to be reckoned within, the Nollywood film industry, especially among the female fans as they feel directly connected to the role he plays, especially in the web series ‘skinny girls in transit’.
8. Tope Tedela – should not be a new name in the streets of Nollywood, as he first came to the limelight when he starred in one of the pioneers Africa magic produced tv shows ‘Edge of Paradise’ where he had a minor role in. But he has gone on to chase his passion as an actor and has arguably gotten better with every chance he gets in showcasing his talent. Most recently on the just concluded tv show ‘Jemeji’ where he played a rogue as well as a false prince.
9. Charles Inojie – originally started off as a director and film producer, Charles Inojie belongs to the era of home videos Nollywood and has gone on to branding & rebranding himself to garner respect among the new comers in the era of fancy Nollywood. A comedian at most in the roles he plays but also one that doesn’t fault in the films he stars in. Watch him closely weekdays in the highly followed ‘The Johnsons’.
10. Charles Etubiebi – A very talented actor that changed in everyone’s eyes has gone on to lay claims to be regarded as the best actor of his generation is one that is also passionate about acting and never fails to deliver. Get familiar with blockbusters that he has starred in and on the daily drama ‘Forbidden’ where he plays the role of a self-righteous bastard child ‘Timileyin Braithwaite’.
Nollywood, is a highly tense and competitive environment to break into, but always a platform to showcase the next big thing.
