“The focus of Women Chune Wednesdays is on taking the adoration of women on Wednesdays i.e #WCW, and placing it on women in music. 3 amazing projects (song or tape) by female artistes from any time period in music will be shared weekly. Look out for your favs!” - A lover of women & music.

Simi - Simisola (2017)

Surulere born songstress, Simi is an endearing character. Her music is largely accepted by the young and old which speaks volume of her vibrancy and thoughtfulness in songwriting. On her sophomore project, eponymously titled Simisola, she shows her prowess in composing ballads cut across themes of love, self-acceptance, and a pinch of good humor. The success of this project may erroneously be mistaken as an overnight one but Simi has been around making music since far back as 2008. With Simisola, she beats the odds stacked up against women in the hostile Nigerian music industry, as she successfully pivoted from bubbling underground talent to critically acclaimed artist as the album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard world album charts.
Jorja Smith - Lost & Found (2018)

Nothing has been the same since Jorja Smith voiced on the song Get it Together, off Drake's More Life playlist. The feature came at the back of her impressive debut EP, Project 11 and she's since collaborated with artistes like Kali Uchis, Khalid, Preditah, H.E.R to mention a few. The music she makes on debut album, Lost & Found is intimate. With its minimal instrumentation, her voice is at the center of everything. She asks profound questions on album opener Lost & Found, alludes childish infatuations on Teenage Fantasy and wanders into activism against police brutality and racial profiling on Blue Lights.
Maka - CTRL+M (2018)

Maka is a Nigerian soul singer with proclivity for fluid fusion of genres ranging from hip-hop, afrobeat & jazz . CTRL+M is a predominantly acoustic conceptual project inspired by the American singer SZA's successful debut album, CTRL.
CTRL+M is clearly not a cover project, although it shares sonic identity in its instrumentation with CTRL, but it sees Maka ultimately show commendable ingenuity by telling her own story through emotive songwriting. Maka is at her sharpest as she uses her voice to tell resounding love stories that touch on heartbreak, vulnerability & lust.
