Janelle Monáe - The ArchAndroid (2010)

Janelle is an intriguing personality. Her music is drawn from diverse influences; like David Bowie, she creates music with futuristic themes, packs the neo-soul prowess of Lauryn Hill and channels genre-hopping abilities that's reminiscent of Andre 3000. Her image is dandy, she loves a good tux, her hair is always neatly coiffed like it was drawn out by an architect from the Victorian era. The music on her debut album TheArchAndroid has its core in R&B and funk, but her supple talent saw her branch into hip-hop and elements of rock & disco. She describes it as "emotion picture" and the cinematic effect in its production makes it sound like theme music that could open up a classic Quentin Tarantino motion picture.
Alicia Keys - Songs In A Minor (2001)

Alicia Keys doesn't need any introduction. She's a trained classical pianist, a multiple Grammy award winner, a prodigy who was composing music by the age of 12, and singer on unofficial New York anthem Empire State of Mind.
Songs in A Minor is one of the best debuts of 2000's music. Released when Keys was 20, she had written some of the songs since she was 14 and it's listed as one of the best selling albums of all time by the RIAA, earning Keys numerous accolades including a whooping 5 Grammy awards; making her the star of the night at the 2002 edition of the awards. Largely produced by Keys, the music on the album was a fusion of her classical piano training with haunting R&B melodies, sprinklings of jazz and a fair dose of East Coast hip-hop. It contained Keys' signature song, global number one record Fallin'.
Seinabo Sey - I'm a Dream (2018)

Seinabo is of dual heritage. She's Gambian-Sweedish and sings with a robust voice bolstered by a grooved falsetto. Her music first got to the ears of many when Norwegian DJ, Kygo made a remix to her 2014 song, Younger. Her singing, prodding lyrics and the echoing sound of 'younger' on the chorus were the song's pulling force. On her sophomore album, I'm a Dream she sings emotively about pain on Never Get Used To, she's uplifting on 'gospelesque' Breathe and enforces freedom and independence on I Owe You Nothing.
